Spending time with middle schoolers offers a different perspective. On relationships. On the world around. On everything. They see things through a different lens. Lenses we all used to have. At an early part of our lives.
Spending time with middle schoolers. Specifically my middle schooler and her friends. Learning the history of our country. Made me ponder. Think. About a lot.
This is the sixth post on my blog. Written on a bus. In the dark. Driving through our nation's capital
Legacy- Stand Up
3/22/18
Legacy. What will your legacy be?
What do you want to leave?
There has been a word. Or a phrase. Every morning.
Today.
Legacy.

I walked today. Listening. Gazing. Through museums and cemeteries.
Legacy. Memorials. Known and unknown.
Legacy.
I shared stories and prayers with teenage girls. Girls afraid to gaze as we walked a museum of remembrance.

I want to leave a legacy that is not to afraid to gaze. To stare down the horrific. The evil in this world. Because it is through gazing and staring and not turning away, we bring it to the light. We keep it in the light. Because then the darkness will not. CANNOT! Take back that ground.

I traversed a cemetery. Hallowed ground. With silent 8th graders. Honoring those that gave their todays for our tomorrows. Their identities so we could know and find ours.

I want to leave a legacy that takes a stand. A stand for what is right. For what breaks God’s heart. And I want my children. Those I birthed and those that come through my classroom. To know that taking a stand. Though painful. Is one of the most sacrificial and honoring things to do.
